Features & Applications

Collagen Production

Collagen plays an important biological role. It combines with elastin, proteoglycans, and glycoproteins to create the Extracellular Matrix which binds tissues and organs together.

As we age, our collagen levels decline, making collagen essential for providing strength, elasticity, and suppleness to various tissues, particularly the skin.

The rich bioactive β-triketone compounds in Mānuka Oil are known to have twice the efficacy of Vitamin C in stimulating Collagen III synthesis.

Include RāKiwi Mānuka Oil in your skincare range to produce those naturally enhanced smoothing and toning effects essential for sustaining youthful and radiant skin.

Acne Treatment

Acne is a prevalent concern, particularly among teenagers, with Cutibacterium acnes (C. acnes) often playing a role in its development.

This bacterium, naturally present in healthy skin microbiota, can exacerbate acne when it overproduces sebum, leading to clogged pores and inflammatory comedones.

RāKiwi Mānuka Oil offers a potent solution with its exceptionally high levels of β-Triketones. These compounds boast anti-inflammatory properties known to be effective in reducing acne-related inflammation.

Additionally, β-Triketones exhibit antibacterial properties, targeting the acne-causing bacteria and promoting clearer, healthier skin. Incorporate RāKiwi Mānuka Oil into skincare formulations for its dual action against acne and skin rejuvenation.

Hair Care

Dandruff, a prevalent concern in hair care, can be triggered by various factors such as stress, environmental factors, climate, or genetics. Dry dandruff often arises from scalp dryness, while oily dandruff results from excessive sebum secretion, leading to potential hair loss. Malassezia furfur (M. furfur), a natural yeast species on the skin, is a primary culprit behind dandruff.

RāKiwi Mānuka Oil, enriched with high concentrations of triketones, presents a promising ingredient for hair care products.

Its multi-faceted benefits include regulating sebum production, inhibiting the growth of M. furfur, and nurturing a balanced scalp microbiome, ultimately promoting scalp health and dandruff control in hair products formulations.

Oral Care

The human oral cavity harbors a diverse array of bacteria, with over 500 different species present. Among them a gram-negative anaerobic bacterium (P. gingivalis) plays a role in the development of periodontiti a destructive inflammatory condition that affects the supporting tissues of the teeth and can eventually result in tooth loss.

Numerous studies have demonstrated the efficacy of Manuka oil in inhibiting the growth of oral pathogens and treating periodontal disease.

With its high β-triketone content RāKiwi Mānuka Oil is a potent ingredient for enhancing oral health. It's benefits include reducing the growth of oral pathogens, including bacteria associated with tooth decay, making it a natural solution for oral care.

Deoderising

Staphylococcus hominis (S. hominis) is a gram-positive bacterium known to contribute to unpleasant body odour. Additionally, other microorganisms like yeast and fungal infections can also be responsible for causing odours in various parts of the body. In high humidity, these bacteria can proliferate rapidly and disrupt the natural balance of the microbiota.

Traditional deodorants and antiperspirants typically work by indiscriminately killing underarm bacteria, or by blocking sweat glands.

In contrast, Manuka Oil offers a targeted approach by specifically addressing Staphylococcus bacteria, including S. hominis, to combat body odour while minimizing the impact on other beneficial bacteria and without obstructing sweat glands.

The benefits of using RāKiwi Mānuka Oil include reducing the growth of S. hominis, effectively targeting odour-causing bacteria, and gently balancing the skin microbiome. It serves as a natural solution for addressing body odour concerns.

It is important to note that while Manuka Oil has antimicrobial properties and has been studied for its effects on bacteria, there may be variations in individual responses and more research is needed to fully validate its efficacy for specific applications.

FAQ

What makes East Cape Mānuka Oil unique?

East Cape Manuka trees have evolved such that they have High Triketone chemotype producing naturally high βeta-Triketone levels which have powerful anti-bacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties.

East Cape Mānuka Oil is 30 times more powerful than Tea Tree oil (Cooke & Cooke,1994), and significantly more powerful than Mānuka honey against bacteria that cause common skin infections (Girma et al., 2019 and TPL).

Mānuka leaves and twigs are harvested from plantations and wild using customised equipment.

Steam distillation process is applied to extract the Mānuka oil, and steam condensation separate the oil from the hydrosol (water with other manuka compounds).1 Tonne of foliage produces approximately 3 - 4 litres of Mānuka Oil.

Mānuka oil is tested by independent laboratories, then packed in batches based on respective triketone levels, ready for export.
